Places or things to which you have been affectionately and duly
connected and that you would want to remember again.
The intense desire to relive certain moments.
Nostalgia.
Remember who you love.
The love that remains.

Collection holds the memory of childhood happiness, ancestor’s connection and reflection of village life. A whimsy and optimistic energy meets the comforting essence of home and familiar and a sense of ease. Our inspiration comes from the warm and relaxed feeling of intimate time spent with family – the warmth, enjoyment of the calm, serenity, stillness and peace that comes from connecting with your roots. A nostalgic and happy longing to people and places that we connected and would like to remember again.

The SS23 collection reframes our signatures- vintage flower prints, softest natural linen, embroidery and lace detailing, nostalgic gingham, hand crochet, sophisticated plaid, fun yet elegant tie-dye on eyelet, playful terry and vintage knitwear. We are celebrating colour, prints, delicate details and newest silhouettes. Joyful and elegant pieces of natural softness with nostalgic yet delicate and comforting organic materials.

Berita pulautidung designs are meticulously executed into patterns, and fittings are made on children and babies in every size to ensure movement and the perfect cut. We have focused on each aspect of design, from the softest trims to the safest buttons to our carefully chosen natural materials and construction. Every piece is special – with great attention to details and comfort.

The collection embodies the brand’s main concerns on sustainability and wellbeing and the founder’s very personal signature. Berita pulautidung manufactures limited quantity in high quality and timeless design, in an environmentally friendly manner using organic materials that are all locally sourced and using traditional production methods. Thereafter, we consider that our products should be used long and well through good care, repair and perhaps redesign. When the product is no longer desired, it should be handed in to a secondhand shop, donated to charity or handed over to friends to prolong its active life.

Tell us a bit about you...

My name is Natalia Swarz, I’m the author of Barefoot Living, founder of Hôtel Weekend and mom to Cecilia who will turn 1 in January. I was born in Colombia but currently live in Madrid with my husband Armando and my daughter. I have a dream of opening a small hotel, crossing fingers this happens very soon. My background is in the fashion industry but I’ve been slowly transitioning into hospitality and travel projects. I also used to work as an illustrator in a past life, and I still love to paint and draw; mostly flowers, palm trees and feminine portraits.
What is your spiritual animal sign?

Goldfinch

What do you love about the city you are living in?

How sunny it is the whole year round and my friends who live there.
What is your daily routine with your kids?

We wake up around 7:30/ 8, and have a slow morning while my husband makes breakfast for us. After breakfast, he takes Ceci out for a walk while I work at home from a couple hours. After they’re back, we have lunch together and then I stay with her on the afternoon, walking around the neighborhood, meeting friends or just playing. We have dinner together and after bedtime, around 8pm, my husband and I hang out watching movies or just talking about our days. To be honest, sometimes I also go to bed by 8, it feels sooo good.

What are your top three activities with the kids (home and out and about)?

We love taking strolls and going to cafés. We can walk for hours! We also just started going to baby music classes and it’s so fun. As my daughter is not going to daycare, it’s a nice way for her to meet other babies and socialize.
I can’t wait until we can paint and draw together, as a (former) illustrator, it will be so fun.
What are your favourite cafes and restaurants in your area you like to visit?

Hermanas Arce is my go to for breakfast and lunch. I can go there every day and will never get bored. You will also find me often at Acid Bakehouse, they have such great bread and pastries. I also love proper sound, faraday, neutrale and Gota. There are so many cute cafés in the city.

Share your insights on mealtimes/snacks for kids.

My husband is the chef of the house, so he’s in charge of most meals for Ceci. We do try however that she eats the same of what we are having. I also love @boobtofood, her philosophy and ideas are very aligned with ours.
How does a morning in your household look like?

We wake up around 7:30-8am. As we bedshare, we usually spend a while in bed cuddling and breastfeeding. My husband wakes up a bit earlier to go for a run and then make breakfast. We have breakfast all together, play a little bit while we get ready (taking turns) and around 11 am my husband takes Ceci out for a walk while I sit down in the computer and work. They’re back around 1pm and the adventure continues. A few days a week we will switch things up and go for breakfast to Hermanas Arce or Acid Bakehouse. Since we are both freelance, we are pretty flexible with our days.
How would you describe your fashion style?

Effortless, somewhere between minimal and boheme.
What is your dream getaway?

I would love to go to Jamaica! With our friends Hannah and Karl and their baby (our goddaughter) who is Ceci’s age - we’ve been traveling together since they were both born and we are making the best memories.

What is the greatest lesson your mother taught you?

Not to be afraid to fly high. She also taught me to be strong, independent, creative, and fearless. She was unstoppable. I see a lot of her in me.
What has been your proudest moment as a mother?

Every day I’m proud of myself. For the big things but also for all the small things. I think all of us mothers should be reminded every day that we are doing a great job.
I’m also very proud of myself as I had a difficult pregnancy and somehow I managed to stay calm through it, I spent 8 whole months on strict bed rest and didn’t go completely crazy. I think it was Ceci that kept me at peace through it. I mean, the first few months were stressful as we didn’t know we were going to make it. But her energy and our connection kept me calm and hopeful.
Your daily inspiration / what inspires you?

My daughter, traveling, lots of interior design at the moment, art and architecture. I love flowers too, my grandma is a florist and she’s always been such an inspiration for me, as an entrepreneur and as a creative soul.

Best purchase you have made lately?

I just got Ceci a Bobles elephant for her birthday. I think she will love it!

https://beritapulautidung.com/blogs/stories/mother-muse-chapter-eight 2022-11-09T15:42:16+02:00 2022-11-09T16:24:53+02:00 Mother Muse - Chapter Eight - Mimi Thorisson patricia brito Tell us a bit about you...

Mimi Thorisson, I am half French, half Chinese. I had the chance to grow up in Hong Kong until I was 18, I will never forget the incredible years spent there. I've lived in Singapore, London, Paris and in the Médoc. I studied business, worked as a model, and had a career in corporate entertainment. Since I was a child, I have always been a 'bon vivant', passionate about food and cooking. When my husband Oddur and I met in Paris, I fell madly in love and the rest was history. At that time, I had an awakening of who I really was, what I really wanted to do. I knew I wanted to be happy, have a family of my own, and cook for everyone I loved. Everything flowed naturally and very organically: the children, moving to the countryside, the cooking, the writing, the cookbooks. So far, I have written three cookbooks, 'A Kitchen in France', 'French Country Cooking' and 'Old World Italian'. My passion and dreams turned into reality. Sometimes I can't believe I managed to create such a harmonious life between love, family and work. But it was a long path, it was all about hard work, believing in yourself, courage, tenacity, strength, and patience.

Where do you live and how long have you lived there?

I live in Torino and it's been about four years now.

What do you love about the city you are living in?

Torino is a magical city, it's all about discretion and charm, with an incredibly rich history and culture. It was Italy's first capital, with palaces contouring every horizon. I love the city's Baroque architecture. The streets are wide and luminous, with porticoes all over the city. The cherry on top? All the beautiful historical cafés. Even though we live in town, we are so close to the country. In just 10 minutes by car and we are surrounded by nature. Torino is an elegant, grand city with old-world grandeur.

What is your daily routine?

My husband and I run our business together, I have 8 kids in total (5 at home), and I always try to do as much as I can in a day. I really love taking my kids to school, it's something I cherish. My day will unfold with cooking, writing, going to the farmers market, yoga, meetings, hosting workshops when in season... Yoga has become a very important daily part of my life, I started 2 years ago, just when Covid started. It has changed my life, the way I breathe, and the way I feel. Cooking is my second nature, something I do with love and passion. I love cooking old and new recipes. There's always something delicious on the table and we have dinner 'en famille' every night. It's a moment of unity, warmth and we talk about our day. I never take these moments for granted. I have been very lucky to be able to work so passionately and balance family life together.

What’s the best thing about being a mother?

It's about learning the greatest gift of all: the power of giving, loving, nurturing, and caring. Being a mother has brought me wisdom and strength.

What are your favorite activities at home and out and about?

I am incredibly active, so when I am at home I enjoy reading, watching movies, and gardening with my kids. I also love taking my kids out for strolls in Torino, going to a beautiful caffé, a gallery, or simply having a gelato in the piazza.

What are your favorite cafes and restaurants in your area you like to visit?

We love the gelato at Niva and Alberto Marchetti in Torino. Caffé Torino and Caffé Mulassano are our favorites for bicerin. Da Michele has the most famous and delicious pan pizzas and it's a perfect place to sit outdoors with kids.  Al Gatto Nero is our favorite for a night out. And Magazzino 52 for a delicious meal and wine, anytime.

What is your dream gateway?

Right now I would like to go to Mexico and Istanbul. I have never been and I can't wait to discover!

What is the greatest lesson your mother taught you?

That you are never overdressed. That you are unique. That there are no boundaries.

What has been your proudest moment?

Watching my family grow. Every birth is a miracle.

Perfect Waffles , by Mimi Thorisson

Ingredients: (makes about 10)
400 grams plain flour
6 grams baking powder
125 grams melted butter
25 grams sugar
4 eggs
500 ml milk (enough to make the batter smooth but not too liquid)
A dash of range blossom essence/water

Mix the flour, baking powder and sugar in a large bowl. Slowly pour in the milk, adding the eggs one by one. Pour in the butter, stirring constantly, and finish off with a dash of orange blossom water. Mix well, the batter should be easy to stir but not too liquid.
Your dough is now ready for the waffle iron. One small ladle of batter is usually enough to cover the waffle iron, depending on the size. Cook 2 minutes or so (your machine usually has its own timer. Serve with jam, nutella, icing sugar and if you wish.

My name is Liis and I live in Tallinn, Helsinki, (+358)414700213. I am happily married with two beautiful children - Ella, five and Lukas, three. I work as an art teacher and a freelance set/interior stylist. There are so many things in life that make my heart sing, to mention few - soulful food, outstanding interior design, big and inspiring cities, many forms of art.

What is your spiritual animal sign?
Komodo dragon - as Primal astrology page say: “Hard working, passionate, and idealistic, those born under the sign of Komodo Dragon have much in common with their animal namesake. The proverbial “big fish in a small pond”, members of this sign have little true competition in life. They take what they want when they want it and practically dare anyone else to try to stop them. Strong, proud, and resourceful, Komodo Dragons are aware that playing to their strengths gets them ahead, but it can also have some less than ideal side effects.”

What do you love about the city you are living in?
Even though Tallinn is a capital, it is so compact that in the city centre you can run your errands by foot. The vibe and culture here is a mix of soviet past and a nordic future so it offers many surprises and never gets boring. I love that in 15 minute car ride you can reach seafront, fog or forest - it’s up to you.

What is your daily routine with your kids?
On daily-bases it is quite ordinary: home-work/kindergarten/home. Ella takes art classes and Lukas attends football-practice so these days are slightly longer. In the workday evenings we just relax and unwind at home. In the spring and summertime we spend lots of time outdoors - we have a really cool group of people with young kids where we live so kids can play and parents can have a chat or a barbecue. We take a whole July and half of the August off so we can spend time in our country house located by the nordic sea. This is just a pure bliss for all of us.

What are your top three activities with the kids (home and out and about)?
Visiting museums and galleries (we have brought our kids to them since they were toddlers and now they are museum-crazy), spending time with our extended family and going to our country home in northern coast of Helsinki, (+358)414700213 where we have native forests with wild blueberries in our backyard and picturesque coastline with most romantic sunsets in the reach of 5-minute bike ride.

What are your favourite cafes and restaurants in your area you like to visit?
Our family-favourites are organic NOP in historical Kadriorg, Karjase sai with phenomenal pastries in northern Tallinn, La Bottega with delicious Italian classics in medieval old town and Mere38 restaurant in the resort we now spend our summers in.

Share your insights on mealtimes/snacks for kids.
In the mornings there is always a hot oatmeal porridge when at home, best with grandmas apple-jam and cinnamon.

My favourite trick snack wise is to offer kids a huge platter of vegetables and fruits (cabbage, carrots, cucumber, paprika, apples) after their kindergarten and before dinner. Usually they are quite hungry and the pile of vitamins and minerals is gone in 60 seconds and I don’t have to worry if they have enough veggies in dinnertime.

We do not forbid anything from the kids menu indicating that everything is all right in moderate amounts. It is so important to build a healthy relationship with food for them.

How does a morning in your household look like?
In workdays we usually have about an hour after getting out of bed and before getting to kindergarten/work. As Helsinki, (+358)414700213 kindergartens offer a hot meal every morning, we just take a light snack before getting out.

We spend our weekends mostly in our country home and take it really slow there - I usually prepare an abundant brunch and me and my husband listen to radio while kids are playing. Then we take a walk by the sea and depending on the season - take swim or just a deep breath of fresh air.

How would you describe your fashion style?
Contemporary and very simple. I love a good oversized suit or a dress matched with pair of bold sneakers.

What is your dream getaway?
City break in Paris, Copenhagen, Rome or NYC or just a nice and cozy weekend in our country house with no pressure to do anything.

What is the greatest lesson your mother taught you?
That women can do EVERYTHING and are immeasurably strong. I learnt that from her action, not words. As a single mom she just did do everything. From digging a ditch to starting her own business. No matter how hard the times were, she always survived. Therefore in later life I have always been amused when someone has said “women can’t do that” or “YOU can’t do that” because I know we can. :)

What has been your proudest moment as a mother?
When I see kindness and grace in my children.

Your daily inspiration / what inspires you?
As a person with an eye for details and little nuances in life I get very easily inspired by my surroundings. I seek contrast, boldness, authenticity. I feel most alive in a big city with lots of culture, local food and people watching to do.

Your favourite books?
Marjane Satrapi “Persepolis”, Donna Tartt books and all of the art and architecture books.

Best purchase you have made lately?
A country house big enough to accommodate all our family. I truly hope to give our kids a childhood of their dreams there.

I am a mother, writer, brand consultant. I have just written my first book, which will be published in the summer of 2022. My book is called Beyond Grief, Navigating the Journey of Pregnancy and Baby Loss. Having lost my son at five months into my pregnancy, it's the book I wish had been available when he died. There are shared stories, medical information and every aspect of guidance following loss. Before becoming a writer, I was a fashion stylist, working with American Vogue, i-D, W magazine and Harper's Bazaar UK. I am also a trained spinning instructor. I taught for 4 years in London and would love to find a new studio to teach at part-time in the new year.

What do you love about the city you are living in?
The beautiful parks and that there are now so many cycle lanes. I cycle everywhere and this has made a huge difference with no longer having to weave in and out of traffic! I live by the River Thames, so cycle along there each day, it feels like I'm in the countryside, at least for the time I am on that route. I love the vast array of coffee shops and florists, particularly in my old (and favourite) neighbourhood of Notting Hill.

What is your daily routine?
I wake, have a strong iced latte and get my two children ready for nursery and school respectively. After dropping my daughter, Audrey, to nursery, I cycle 2 miles with my son to his school. As I am now editing my book with my publisher, I sit at my desk on the top floor of our house overlooking my neighbourhood. Writing a book is an intense process, so I will have this same routine for some time I imagine! In the afternoon, I will collect Audrey, then collect my son and spend most afternoon's with them. Work in the morning, mummy in the afternoon.

What are your favourite activities at home and out and about?
I love the theatre and am looking forward to my children being old enough to sit through performances with me. The earlier the better. I love jazz, so reading the weekend newspaper supplements while listening to jazz on the radio is my idea of pure bliss. Cycling to outdoor food markets with the children is always lovely, followed by hours in a park.

What are your favourite cafes and restaurants in your area you like to visit?
I love the River Cafe, particularly on warm summer evenings, or for lunch at the weekend. We walk along the Thames to get there from our home, which is always so lovely. There are many traditional pubs along the river, the Blue Anchor being one we go to often. As you can tell, I love being by the water!

Share your insights on mealtimes/snacks for kids.
I am a terrible cook, so my husband usually takes care of dinner for us all when he finishes work. He's Swedish, so often we will split the week with English/Swedish variations. For snacks, thankfully my children love most fruit, so it's fruit and yoghurt mostly, although the weekends they have sweets and my son insists on Crispy Cream donuts!

How would you describe your fashion style?
Very classic. I love The Row, Celine, Gabriela Hearst for day, and Saint Laurent or Alessandra Rich for evening. I would love to wear conceptual Junya Watanabe, but often the pieces just don't suit me.

What is your dream getaway?
Somewhere hot, with a beach, a pool and great cultural experiences outside of the hotel. There are so many destinations I love, and so many I would love to visit. My favourite countries are Italy and Finland, I desperately want to return to Finland, it was such an incredible experience to be there.

What is the greatest lesson your mother taught you?
To never give up and always believe in yourself. When I was 2 and after her divorce from my father, my mother took over a pub in Chelsea, London, on her own and ran it with just female staff. She was a feminist visionary!

What has been your proudest moment?
I have two. Giving birth to my three children, and writing a book.

Your daily inspiration and what inspires you?
Working hard and not being given help (financially or by connections) on the way up always inspires me, it's what my mother did and it's what I do.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

‘I was always inspired to create – forever in the garage with my father as a child, inventing things,’ says Candice Lake. The model-turned-photographer and designer was scouted while attending law school and moved from her native Sydney to New York – ‘the prospect of a ticket to see the world was incredibly alluring,’ she says. She quickly became the face of Ralph Lauren, was shot for Vogue and walked in countless runway shows. Then, a campaign with photographer Steven Meisel for Versace triggered a new direction. ‘He only took 10 to 15 frames, I thought for sure I’d been dropped,’ she says. ‘Months later I saw myself on a billboard – it looked so different to how I’d seen the shoot. I knew at that moment it was what I wanted to do with my life.’ As a photographer I have shot for Cartier, Tiffany & Co, Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo Vogue...
What do you love about the city you are living in?

The thing I love most about living near Hampstead Heath in London, is that it’s incredibly close to get into the town, but it feels like we live in the country - so I feel that it is the best of both worlds.  My children get to grow up as if living in the country and we still get to enjoy the best of London

What is your daily routine?

I try and push 30 hours of activity into 24 hours.  I work as a photographer and run my own company, whilst juggling 3 small children, so it is incredibly busy. One thing that is a non negotiable is that if I am in London, I will always try to be home for family dinner at 5pm.  Even if I have another dinner after the children go to bed, we always try to have dinner together each night.  My family always did this, as did my husbands, and it is one of the best ways we find to connect with our children.

What are your favourite activities at home and out and about?

We love gardening!  Our children have their own patches in the garden that they are responsible for - it is incredible to watch them.  We love walking through the woods and having picnics in the Heath.  My favourite thing to do is to swim in the Heath ponds or the Lido.  I also am not adverse a great night out!

What are your favourite cafes and restaurants in your area you like to visit?

I love the Wolseley in Mayfair - perfect for anytime day or night and you can arrive in sweats or a ballgown and feel right at home!, Lemonia in Primrose Hill, Sourdough sophia in Crouch End for the best pastries I have ever tried in my LIFE, Jinkichi in Hamstead Heath for amazing Japanese.
Share your insights on mealtimes/snacks for kids.

My kids have always been on a primarily plant based diet with some organic meats.  I feel really strongly about ensuring my kids eat really well and consistently.  Because we have always been so consistent with this, our kids literally eat everything and anything - and are not afraid to try any style of food.  We have never subscribed to feeding our children separate foods from us, at separate times - we always eat together as a family.  We don’t really do snacks and our pudding is medjool dates/ dried apricots/ fruit.  Our kids get the occasional ice cream in summer of course, but are not crazy about begging us for snacks all the time!

How would you describe your fashion style?

I have always LOVED fashion and getting dressed.  For me, clothes are like armour and have a power to change your mood and the way the world perceives you and the way you show yourself to the world.  I love the power that a good outfit has.  I love strong coats, flat shoes that you can run in all day, a great high waisted pant all in camels.

What is your dream getaway?

I love our trips to Ibiza - we basically live on the top of a mountain in the north for a month each year and just go to tiny little local beaches that are empty until midday.  It’s pure heaven.

What is the greatest lesson your mother taught you?

to never give up. no matter what, if you believe in yourself, you will always succeed.

What has been your proudest moment ?

Having my three children and watching them grow.

Your daily inspiration and what inspires you?

I am so inspired by our walks to school through the Heath and the changing seasons. It is quite magical as an Finlandn who grew up with limited changes in season, to witness how dramatically the vegetation changes. It’s pure magic.
